Heating

Heating repair with safety built in

A struggling heater costs you comfort and money — and with gas systems, it can quietly become a safety issue. We diagnose the real problem, test combustion and carbon monoxide as standard practice, and quote the fix before any work begins. Never a change order.

Catch it early

Signs your heater needs attention

Heating systems almost always give warning before they quit. The earlier we look, the smaller the repair.

Energy bills climbing

A heater in decline burns more energy to deliver the same warmth. If winter bills jump without the weather changing, something's working too hard.

Slow or uneven heat

Waiting hours for the house to warm up, or living with rooms that never do? That points to a system — or ductwork — that needs a professional look.

Grinding, screeching, banging

Noises outside the normal hum usually mean a mechanical problem: loose parts, a failing blower motor, or worse. Sooner is cheaper.

Constant on-off cycling

A system that cycles endlessly without reaching temperature is either failing or fighting a bad thermostat. Either way, it's fixable.

What to expect

How a heating repair visit works

1

Diagnose — and safety-check

A licensed technician inspects the whole system and finds the actual cause. On gas systems, that includes combustion and carbon monoxide testing, every time. The $149 diagnostic fee is waived with any approved repair.

2

You see the price first

Flat-rate, upfront pricing before any work begins. We show you what we found, you decide what happens next. No pressure, no scare tactics.

3

Fixed, cleaned up, backed

We complete the repair, verify the system is heating safely, and leave your home the way we found it. BFF members get an extended repair warranty automatically.

Carbon monoxide: the reason we take heating seriously

A gas furnace burns fuel inside your home. When it's healthy, that's perfectly safe. But a cracked heat exchanger, blocked vent, or bad burner can put carbon monoxide — colorless, odorless, and dangerous — into your air. That's why combustion and CO testing is part of every Barker heating visit, and why we recommend working CO detectors on every level of your home. If you ever suspect a CO problem, leave the house first and call from outside.

Maintenance beats repair, every time

An annual fall tune-up catches most heating problems while they're still small and keeps the system running safely and efficiently. BFF members get a yearly Home Comfort Inspection included, plus 10–20% off any repairs and priority scheduling on the coldest weeks. And if your heater is past the point of honest repair, our installation work carries a 10-year warranty with no deductibles.

Heating repair questions, answered plainly

How much does a heating repair cost?

The diagnostic visit is $149, waived if you approve a repair. Every repair is quoted flat-rate before we start, and the quote is the final price — never a change order. BFF members save 10–20% on all repairs.

Do you check for carbon monoxide?

Yes — combustion and carbon monoxide testing is standard on every gas heating visit, not an add-on. If we find a safety issue, we'll show it to you and explain your options plainly.

My heater runs but the house stays cold. What's wrong?

Common culprits: a failing blower, a clogged filter, leaky ductwork, or a thermostat problem. We diagnose the actual cause rather than guessing — that's what keeps the repair small.

Should I repair or replace my heater?

If it's 12–15+ years old and the repair is major, replacement usually wins the math. We'll show you both numbers and let you decide — no pressure either way.
